Prodotta a Greer, nella Carolina del Sud (USA), la prima generazione della BMW Z4 ha sostituito la Z3 come terzo modello della serie Z del marchio tedesco. Si trattava nello specifico della roadster E85 (del 2002) e della coupé E86 (del 2006). Progettata dal designer danese della BMW Anders Warming (la coupé è stata progettata da Tomasz Sycha) con un coefficiente di resistenza aerodinamica di Cx di 0,35, la roadster era inizialmente alimentata da un motore a sei cilindri interamente in lega da 2,5 o 3,0 litri con fasatura variabile delle valvole (doppio VANOS). La trasmissione poteva essere un manuale a cinque o sei marce, un automatico a cinque marce o, infine, un cambio manuale robotizzato SMG-II a sei marce. Rispetto alla Z3, la Z4 era più grande con un telaio più rigido e, come per la Z3, la sospensione anteriore era Macpherson, mentre quella posteriore multi-link. La Z4 utilizzava materiali leggeri per compensare l'aumento di peso, come componenti delle sospensioni in alluminio, telaio del tetto in magnesio e pneumatici run-flat, che eliminavano la necessità della ruote di scorta. Il servosterzo elettrico ha sostituito il tradizionale servosterzo idraulico utilizzato dalla Z3 e la tecnologia di sicurezza della Z4 includeva il controllo elettronico della stabilità, incorporando ABS e controllo della trazione. La produzione sia dell'E85 che dell'E86 terminava nel 2008.
L’esemplare qui proposto è di un elegante colore nero con interni bordeaux e il motore 3.0 è abbinato alla trasmissione automatica.

Manufactured in Greer, South Carolina (USA), the first generation of the BMW Z4 replaced the Z3 as the third model in the German marque’s Z series. It consisted of the E85 roadster (from 2002) and E86 coupe (from 2006). Penned by Danish BMW-designer Anders Warming (the coupe was designed by Tomasz Sycha) with a drag coefficient of Cd of 0.35, the roadster was initially powered by a 2.5 litre or 3.0 litre all-alloy six-cylinder engine with variable valve timing (double-VANOS) and throttle by wire. The transmission choice was a five of six-speed manual, five-speed automatic or, ultimately a six-speed SMG-II automated manual gearbox. Compared with its Z3 predecessor, the Z4 was larger with a stiffer chassis and, as per the Z3, the front suspension was by Macpherson struts with a multi-link rear suspension instead of the semi-trailing design used by the Z3. The Z4 used lightweight materials to offset the increased weight, such as aluminum suspension components, magnesium roof frame, and run-flat tyres, which removed the need for a spare. Electric speed-sensitive power steering replaced the traditional hydraulic power steering used by the Z3, and Z4 safety technology included electronic stability control, incorporating ABS and traction control. Production of both the E85 and E86 ended in 2008.
The example proposed here is in an elegant black color with burgundy interiors and the 3.0 engine is combined with the automatic transmission.
