Circa 8 anni dopo il lancio della XJS, Jaguar lanciò la XJ-SC nel 1983, caratterizzata da un tetto in stile Targa con sezione posteriore ribaltabile.

Con l'introduzione della XJ-SC era disponibile un nuovo motore; il sei cilindri in linea da 3,6 litri. Il sei cilindri in linea è stato l'unico motore disponibile per i primi due anni di produzione della XJ-SC. La versione 5.3L V12 arriva sul mercato nel 1985.

About 8 years after the launch of the XJS, Jaguar launched the XJ-SC in 1983, featuring a Targa-style roof with folding rear section.

With the introduction of the XJ-SC a new engine was available; the 3.6-liter inline six-cylinder. The straight-six was the only engine available for the first two years of the XJ-SC's production. The 5.3L V12 version arrived on the market in 1985.
